Sylvie Châteauvert

Sylvie joined the Department of National Defence September 15, 2008 as Director of General Safety, leaving the Communications Security Establishment as acting Director of Assets Management where she was responsible for Accommodations, Facilities and Material Management. This latest experience allowed Sylvie to integrate and implement occupational health and safety considerations into her day to day activities and she was able to put her OSH expertise into practice as a manager.

She has been a Federal Public Servant since September 1981 and has worked primarily in the field of occupational health and safety. She has worked in diverse work environments from operational to corporate settings in various departments and agencies. These include Natural Resources Canada, Agriculture and Agri-food Canada, Health Canada, the Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency, the Parks Canada Agency and the Communications Security Establishment.

She has designed, developed and implemented strategies, policies, programs and processes in occupational health and safety, security, human resource management and assets management for the continuous quality improvement of service provision. Through her consultative approach and use of governance systems, she has demonstrated the benefits of teamwork and the value of effective interpersonal relationships.

Her quest for continuous learning has propelled her through several years of part-time university leading to the completion of a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration and a Masters Degree in Public Administration.

She prides herself as being a person who makes things happen. She has established herself as an engaging leader and team player, motivating and promoting a sense of pride and commitment to the job. Teamwork is a fundamental value in her vision for success. As a member of the Defence Team, Sylvie is dedicated to making a difference in the health and safety of thousands of individuals across the country by reaching out through the General Safety Program and its network.
