Chief Warrant Officer Guy Janssens, MMM, CD

Chief Warrant Officer (CWO) Guy Janssens is a native of Lachute, Quebec, Canada. After high school, he joined the Canadian Forces in the fall of 1979 and attended recruit training in Cornwallis, Nova Scotia. He completed Meteorological Technician training at the Canadian Forces School of Meteorology in December 1980. His postings include the following: Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Portage la Prairie, Manitoba (1980-1984); Meteorology and Oceanography Centre at Maritime Command Headquarters in Halifax, Nova Scotia (1984); Her Majesty’s Canadian Ship (HMCS) Iroquois (1984-1987); CFB Trenton, Ontario (1987-1989); Canadian Forces Station Alert, Northwest Territories (1987); Canadian NORAD Region Headquarters, North Bay, Ontario (1989-1994); Meteorology and Oceanography Centre at Maritime Forces Pacific Headquarters, Victoria, British Columbia (1994); HMCS Huron (1994-1997); Canadian Forces Training Development Centre, CFB Borden, Ontario (1997-1999); 4 Wing Cold Lake, Alberta (1999-2002); United States Air Force Senior Non-Commissioned Officer Academy, Maxwell Air Force Base, Montgomery, Alabama (2002-2005); Air Command Academy, CFB Borden, Ontario (2005-2007); Canadian Forces Recruiting Group Headquarters, CFB Borden, Ontario (2007-2010). Vice Chief of Defence Staff Group (2010-present).

As mentioned above, CWO Janssens entered the United States Air Force Senior Non Commissioned Officer Academy at Maxwell Air Force Base in 2002 and later that year, he was selected as Canadian Liaison Instructor at that institution.

CWO Janssens deployed with Rotation 2 of Task Force Afghanistan as the Theatre Support Element CWO in 2006.

CWO Janssens completed the Executive Leadership Program at the Canadian Forces College in 2007.

CWO Janssens was selected as the mentor for the Advanced Leadership Course at the Armed Forces Training Centre in Switzerland in 2008.

During his career, CWO Janssens has received a variety of military decorations, including the United States Meritorious Service Medal, the Canadian Forces Decoration (with clasp), the Special Service Medal (with Alert bar), the General Service Medal (with ISAF bar), the Southwest Asia Medal (with Afghanistan bar) and the Order of Military Merit (MMM).

In 2007, CWO Janssens received his first senior appointment as the Canadian Forces Recruiting Group CWO.

In 2010, he was selected as the Vice Chief of Defence Staff Group CWO.
